Savannah

We didn't think we could handle driving back all in one day like we did when we drove down to Orlando. I convinced Dave to stop in Savannah GA on the way home. It was a perfect stop. It's 5 hours from Orlando. We got there around 2 in the afternoon and had till the next day to explore.
When looking into Savannah on Google it talks about how it is perfect for bridal parties, girls weekends and a couples weekend. That didn't describe anything we were going to do but we found some family friendly things. It was beautiful... perfect for a romantic weekend without kids.
We got there and discovered Forsyth Park. It is so beautiful and surrounding the park are where the beautiful huge houses are.
A pretty statue

These trees are so cool. Live Oaks. They make a canopy over all the streets.
When we got to the park the kids were so excited to play. Poor Siena promptly fell off the monkey bars and was sad the rest of the time at the park
.
They are smart down in Georgia. It is so hot you have to be in water to be outside so they have spray parks everywhere. Ben really enjoyed himself.
Dave found this cool Historical tour by Horse and carriage. It was so much fun. It helped the kids be happier about the whole trip. So we arrive for our carriage time and the other group that gets put with us is a bridal party. I felt so bad for them. Luckilly our kids were good. Claire was getting cranky by the end of it but there was no screaming or annoying each other. The bridal party was really nice to us and said we had good kids. Dave and I enjoyed the ride and the history of some of the houses and of Savannah.
One of the main things Savannah is known for is that the Girl scouts was started there. This is the house of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl scouts. 100 years this year!

 We survived the carriage tour.
They  had these other tours that took you from bar to bar. You would pedal your carriage with all the others in your group till you got to the next bar. I guess it was a way to work off the calories from the previous bar before you got to the next one. It was really funny looking. Dave wouldn't take a picture for me.

We got a hotel right outside of Savannah since we were there Memorial day weekend and didn't plan ahead far enough. Sunday we went down to Historical Sanvannah where they have fun boardwalk of shops. There were tons of Old fashioned candy stores. We saw taffy being made and filled up on candy for the trip home. I got my only souvenier of the trip... a big Southern hat for the beach!

 A pirate ship docked.
 Another splash park.

I wanted to drive thru Savannah and look at all the cool houses. We got so lucky. Ben and Claire both fell asleep and we gave Siena a journal to write in and she was content. We spent the next hour just driving around. It was perfect. So pretty.
Did you know that part of Forest Gump was taped in Savannah. In this square they taped the scene where Forest is waiting for the bus at the end. They took the bench away because people were stealing it and vandalizing it but this is the place it was filmed at.
Some huge multi million dollar church. We were driving by right when it was getting out. It was fun to see people dressed in their Southern summer church best. Bow ties and big hats.

 so pretty.

I am so glad we got to stay in GA. It was fabulous.
