good books

I am looking for any advice on good summer books. I hate getting books and getting half way through them and having to stop reading them because of language or other violence.I am looking for some easy reads when we go to the beach. If you know of any good books I would love some suggestions.

I get lots of my good book ideas from you! Dean Hughes who wrote the Children of the Promise series that we both liked has some single volume books out. I don't remember the titles, but they were good. I usually look for LDS authors to keep it clean. Here everyone is reading those Vampire books and her new series about aliens.-Stephanie Meyer I think is the author. I have not read them, but all the YW and leaders are reading them.

Anyway-when did you get those darling family photos-and when do I get some! They are awesome. I have to admit, I usually just read your email, but today I went to the blog-it is darling-keep up the good work and I will try to look at the actual blog more often!

This computer thinks I am Jennie-so until I get it set up right I will look like Jennie-sorry!

Love, Mom

If you're looking for easy reads, you might try some teen, YA fiction. My son recently brought home "Bridge from Tarabithia" by Katherine Patterson, which was a good read, but it totally makes you cry at the end. Even lighter and just fun are books by Kate DiCamillo, like "The Tale of Despereaux" or "Because of Winn-Dixie."

My favorites that I've read somewhat recently -- "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, "The Sign of the Beaver" by Elizabeth George Speare (another teen book), and "Wisdom of our Fathers" by Tim Russert (we'll sure miss him).

For relatively new LDS fiction, you might try "Bound on Earth" by Angela Hallstrom, or the Stephanie Meyer books, which are big even among non-LDS readers here in CO. I haven't read the vampire books, but I'm a bit rebellious about following the crowd....

OK, little Jon is recommending "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" volumes 1 and 2, which I am sure your little Ben will love when he is in middle school. It is quite entertaining, actually. Of course, it's written with pre-pubescent boys in mind, but it's a riot! I actually like it. And it's not nearly as icky as Captain Underpants....

YA fiction is usually pretty clean and entertaining. Anything by Shannon Hale is good. I particularly liked Princess Academy or Austenland. I have read the Twilight books that are so popular these days. I enjoyed them. Also, I have heard good things about the Uglies series (by Scott Westerfield), but I haven't read them.

I know that I've let you borrow a few that you didn't seem too terribly interested in but if you want another one that I just recently finished that I really liked and I think Dan and Becca read it too is "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. It's fantastic.

I would recommend Eoin Colfer, who wrote the Artemis Fowl series, Benny and Omar, and Airman. He's an excellent author!
